XMUM Holds 2026 Career Fair with Over 2,500 Opportunities
Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) held its annual Career Fair at People's Great Hall on 28 October 2026, bringing together more than 60 companies with over 1,500 job openings and 1,000 internship opportunities.Participating employers included local companies such as Gamuda and Maybank, Chinese companies such as Yealink and Alibaba Cloud, and multinational companies such as Lazada and Baker Tilly, representing sectors including finance, information technology, retail and engineering.The fair attracted students seeking employment and internship opportunities. A student majoring in Finance noted that more finance companies and a wider range of positions were available compared with last year, and hoped to secure an internship to gain practical experience.Company representatives also introduced their recruitment needs and employee development programmes. A representative from China Logistics Group shared the company's job rotation programme, which allows new recruits to gain experience in different roles before choosing a permanent position.Yealink, a company founded by an Xiamen University alumnus, participated in the fair for the first time. As the company expands its overseas operations, it is looking for candidates proficient in both Chinese and English for product-related and trade-related roles. Its representative noted that XMUM graduates' experience studying in an English-medium environment makes them suitable candidates for these positions.
Prof. Chen Huanyang Elected to Optica's 2027 Fellow Class
The Research and Postgraduate Centre congratulates Prof. Huanyang Chen on his election to the Optica Fellow Class of 2027. Affiliated with the Department of Physics at both Xiamen University and Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), Prof. Chen was recognised “for contributions to transformation optics and metamaterials, and for advancing the concept into acoustic waves and water wave engineering.”Optica announces 2027 Fellows classProf. Chen Huanyang's research focuses on transformation optics, metamaterials and wave manipulation. His work explores how these concepts can be applied beyond electromagnetic waves to acoustic and water waves, extending their use across different physical systems.Founded in 1916 and formerly known as The Optical Society (OSA), Optica is an international society dedicated to advancing optics and photonics. Its Fellow distinction recognises members who have made outstanding contributions to the field. The 2027 Fellow Class comprises 116 members from 23 countries, recognised for their contributions to optics and photonics through research, business, education, engineering and service to the Society and the wider community.
PhD Student Wins Best Presenter Award at International Science and Technology Conference 2026
The Research and Postgraduate Centre congratulates Chew Zhi Ling, a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Chen Binghui and Asst. Prof. Dr. Kua Yin Leng from the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), on winning the Best Oral Presenter Award at the International Science and Technology Conference (i-COSTECH 2026). Chew Zhi Ling presented her work entitled “Valorization of Malaysian Agro-Wastes into Oxidative-Stable Black Soldier Fly Larvae Oil-Durian Seed Oleogel”, under the category of Environmental & Green Chemistry / Applied Chemistry / Sustainable & Renewable Energy Engineering. The project aims to improve the functional properties and oxidative stability of conventional oleogels using the oil extracted from oil palm biomass-fed black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) and durian seed as a polysaccharide-rich gelator. By utilizing these abundant Malaysian agro-wastes for the production of functional colloidal system, the presentation also highlights the ecological benefits, waste valorization, and circular economy, while addressing the functional limitations of conventional oleogels. Best Presenter CertificateThe conference was organized by the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Perlis Branch on 23-24 September 2026 at Universitas Islam Riau (UIR), Pekan Baru, Indonesia.
