School of Traditional Chinese Medicine Showcases TCM Practices at MH Wellness Fair

Published on November 2, 2026

The School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) showcased traditional practices at the MH Wellness Fair on 22 October 2026, organised by the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC).

The booth featured herbal sachet-making, auricular acupressure and interactive activities on Chinese medicinal herbs. Visitors received complimentary herbal sachets, learned about their cultural significance and traditional uses, and explored TCM practices through hands-on activities and demonstrations.

The activities attracted visitors from diverse cultural backgrounds, offering them an opportunity to learn about TCM through direct participation rather than observation alone.

Dr. Ng Chong Shan led the TCM team, with students from the School of TCM serving as booth helpers. They assisted with booth operations, introduced the activities and guided visitors through the different stations.

Student Reflections

Loh Wan Xian (TCM2309846):

“As a Year 4 TCM student, I was honoured to serve as a student helper at the MH Wellness Fair. I was primarily responsible for the auricular acupressure station, where I worked with my partner to understand participants' health concerns and provide appropriate guidance. Compared with previous similar events, I felt more confident applying my theoretical knowledge, communicating with participants and conducting preliminary consultations. This experience also reminded me that practising TCM requires not only professional knowledge but also patience, responsibility and care for others.”

Cheng Puei Ching (TCM2309840):

"Participating in the MH Wellness Fair was a meaningful experience. Through activities such as auricular acupressure, Chinese medicinal herb quizzes and herbal sachet-making, we introduced participants to TCM practices and their cultural heritage. Seeing visitors explore the activities with curiosity made me realise that even a small experience, such as making an herbal sachet, could be someone's first step towards understanding TCM. I hope to have more opportunities to share TCM across linguistic and cultural boundaries."
