Chemical Engineering Student Publishes in Journal of Molecular Liquids

The Research and Postgraduate Centre congratulates Teh Jia Leang and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rashmi Walvekar from the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering for the recent article published in the Journal of Molecular Liquid, an SCI Q1 journal with the latest impact factor of 6.633. 

Teh Jia Leang has graduated from Xiamen University Malaysia with a Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering earlier this year. He conducted the project under the supervision of Dr. Rashmi Walvekar, the corresponding author of this article.

The paper entitled “A review on the properties and tribological performance of recent nonaqueous miscible lubricants” introduces various oil-miscible lubricants such as lubricants synthetic oil, vegetable oil, blend oil, ionic liquids (IL), and nanolubricants in terms of their physico-chemical properties and lubrication performance. The selection of lubricants in the metalworking industry is especially crucial as lubricants are one of determining factors of product quality as well as the lifespan of machinery. Much research has been conducted on neat oil, commercial additives, and metal-based nanoparticles; hence, this review aims to explore more the tribological performance of carbon-based nanolubricants and ILs as their lubricant additive. On top of that, the review has explained the dispersion stability, viscosity and viscosity index, thermal conductivity, and thermal-oxidative stability of nanolubricant. Finally, future recommendations on lubricant research are also discussed.

Dr. Rashmi Walvekar received her Master’s degree from the University Putra Malaysia and PhD from International Islamic University Malaysia. She is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering and advisor for Capstone Project I. She has published in more than 130 peer-reviewed journals and received several research awards at both national and international levels. Her research area includes synthesis of nanofluids, heat transfer enhancement, synthesis and characterization of single and hybrid nanomaterials, synthesis of application-specific deep eutectic solvents, waste tire devulcanization, phase change materials for thermal energy storage, etc.
