Dr. Vincent Woon Kok Sin Receives CrossCulture Programme Fellowship

The Research Management Center congratulates Dr. Vincent Woon Kok Sin, an Assistant Professor of XMUM School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, for being selected to participate in the remote CrossCulture Programme of ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen), Germany.

As a recipient of this remote fellowship, Dr. Vincent Woon would be able to attend a 6-month online thematic training and an intercultural workshop with a host organization in Germany. In addition, an ifa grant will be provided to support Dr. Vincent Woon’s research activities.

Dr. Vincent Woon will also collaborate with Prof. Dr. David Laner from the University of Kassel to identify the limitations of current solid waste management policies, as well as data gap and treatment technology discrepancies between Germany and Malaysia. It is hoped that this collaboration will give rise to proposals for more sustainable solid waste management frameworks in both countries.

Funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, the CrossCulture Programme enables professionals and committed volunteers to think outside of the cultural box. Each year this programme brings together around 120 fellowship recipients from various sectors, with the goal of strengthening civil society networks among Germany and countries across the globe.

Dr. Vincent Woon received his PhD in Environmental Engineering from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and joined Xiamen University Malaysia as an Assistant Professor in 2019. With 10-year academic and industry experiences in environmental management and green city planning, his research interests include carbon footprint analysis, life cycle assessment and life cycle costing of a product or process, recycling of resources from solid waste, green township and building development, and energy optimization. During the United Nations Conference of the Parties Marrakech 2016 (COP22), he presented a speech on behalf of Malaysia under the invitation of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. He is also a Certified GreenRE Manager of Real Estate & Housing Developers’ Association (REHDA) Malaysia.
