XMUM EEE Students Win Silver Medal at IMIC 2021

Innovation Center congratulates EEE students Lee Lou Yee, Pang Chiia, Wang Jifei and Sun Xiaoqing for winning Silver Medal in Science and Technology category (Innovation Project) at International Multidisciplinary Inanovation Competition (IMIC) 2021.

Titled “Investigation of Energy Saving Smart Sensor Controller for HVAC System”, the winning project was conducted under the supervision of Ts. Dr. Kang Chia Chao from XMUM School of Electronic and Computer Engineering.

Smart sensor controller is a device to adjust HVAC system’s motor speed according to the number of people detected by the infrared ray sensor, which may lead to less electricity consumption and help realize energy saving. Experiments were carried out to measure the electric power HVAC system consumes with and without the smart sensor controller. The result shows that the smart sensor controller can save 45.13% on energy and 62.26% on costs on average.

IMIC is an innovation competition organized by Academic International Dialogue (AID Conference). This programme aims to bring together professionals, academics, researchers and students to showcase their innovation and research through poster presentation and demonstration of products.
