Ir. Dr. Wong Shen Yuong Publishes in SCI Q1 Journal

The Research Management Center congratulates Ir. Dr. Wong Shen Yuong from Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) programme on her recent publication entitled “Hybrid Data Regression Model Based on the Generalized Adaptive Resonance Theory Neural Network”. The paper was published online in December 2019 (Volume 7, Issue 1) in IEEE Access, a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

This research work is a collaborative effort of Ir. Dr. Wong and 3 leading scientists in Malaysia, Australia and Hong Kong respectively, i.e., Prof. Yap Keem Siah with affiliation to Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Malaysia), Prof. Lim Chee Peng from the Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation at Deakin University (Australia), and Prof. Eric Wai Ming Lee from City University of Hong Kong.

With the dataset provided by Prof. Eric Wai Ming Lee (currently a panel member of Fire Discipline at the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and an assessor of Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme of the HKSAR Government), the study aims to conjecture the time taken for people to evacuate in the event of fire emergency in a typical karaoke center in Hong Kong. The evacuation time is distinctly linked to normal human behaviors like the route choice and human behavioral responses to the fire alarm. In a standard karaoke center in Hong Kong, a straight corridor to which the rooms are connected is directly connected to a lobby area with a clear exit. It is intriguing to perform investigations on the relationship between the variables of the layout of the karaoke center and the evacuation time. The evacuation time is defined as the time taken for everyone to evacuate the center starting from the time of the fire alarm.

Ir. Dr. Wong Shen Yuong is with the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Xiamen University Malaysia. She is a Professional Engineer (PEng./ Ir.) registered to the Board of Engineers Malaysia, accredited under the Washington Accord, International Engineering Alliance. More recently, Ir. Dr. Wong has been appointed an Editorial Board Member of Tier-1 SCI Applied Soft Computing Journal. She has handled more than 10 submissions and reviewing processes in less than 4 months’ time. Her research interests include electrical power system faults detection and diagnosis, computer vision and image processing, machine learning, deep learning, pattern recognition, and other applications of artificial intelligence.
